Review of Ozark Trails 13' X 10' Dome Tent

This tent looks really good, but looks can be
decieving...or can they?

My friends own this particular tent and it looks very pretty. It comfortably sleeps the two adults and two toddlers with room to spare. My friend had no problems with setting it up since it only has two main poles, so it goes up real quick and easy.

However, this tent claims to be 13' X 10' and this claim is a bit deceiving because at the back of the tent is a 2' X 2' X 2' cubby hole for gear, or as my friends thought of...for a dog. Although very convenient, this cubby is included in the 10' width claim, so the actual size of this tent is 13' X 8'. For an Ozark Trails tent this model is very appealing to the eye.

However, on my friends camping trip, the pole for the cubby hole broke, so they had to do without this feature for their entire trip. Not so bad, but definitely a sign of the quality involved in this particular Ozark Trails tent. After seeing my friends camping in this model of Ozark tent I chose to read all the reviews on this Ozark Trails 13' X 10' Dome Tent.

What I found was quite discouraging, over 60 reviews of this model of tent in the last two months, the majority of which would not buy this tent again. Even more discouraging was the amount of people who returned this tent after only one use.

Over a two week stretch there were over 25 people who bought this tent only to have the main poles break within 8 hours of setting up the tent. A large percentage of these poles tore right through the fabric of the tent, rendering the tent far less waterproof, although many claims were made that it would not matter because this fabric does not repel water very well in the first place.

Almost every person who owns this tent is complaining that the “cubby hole” poles broke on set-up, a portion of these folks were able to use duct tape to make it through one night, and this goes for main poles also.

My friends camped out for 3 days in their Ozark Trails 13' X 10' Dome Tent and luckily escaped any further problems. In fact they are, at this time, quite happy with the Ozark tent, I am warning them to bring duct tape in the future though ;-)

So I can not and will not recommend this model of Ozark Trails tent, but I also will not condemn Ozark Trails for this one inferior model since it is quite large and roomy for only $54.00. A lot of people are condemning Ozark Trails brand tents and as a seasoned camper I do understand that people want a great deal.

But, how much can you expect out of such inexpensive tents. I am very happy with my Ozark Trails tent and feel that it is exceeding my expectations of such a cheap tent. So read all the reviews you can and get the best Ozark Trails tent to fit your needs, but beware of a few models that just do not measure up. Happy Camping!
