Ozark Trails 9' x 8' Hexagonal Tent Review
I purchased this Ozark Trails tent last summer and have used it 4 times now. I was in a hurry and needed a tent right away, Wal-Mart was out of the model that I really wanted, so I grabbed this one because it was less than $35
I went camping with this tent twice last summer and twice so far this summer, and I have not had a single problem with this tent. However, the tent stakes that come with this model are very thin and bend very easily.
I would suggest that anyone who owns this tent or is planning on purchasing this model, buy some heavier tent stakes. I would also suggest purchasing some of the big plastic tent stakes for use in the sand, as the smaller metal stakes slide right back out while you are setting the tent up.
Set-up of the Ozark Trails 9' x 8' Hexagonal Tent:
This Ozark Trail tent is fairly quick and easy to set up. I put mine up by myself in about 5 Bob Marley songs, so between 15 and 20 minutes ;-) The toughest part of the job is feeding the two main tent poles through the somewhat small sleeves, the fact that there are 4 tent poles for this small tent also make it a bit more time consuming than one would think.
Once the two main poles are in place to hold the tent upright, the rest goes really easy. The quick connects for the other two poles make it a snap to finish the setup. However, I would recommend feeding them through the the individual sleeves if you are expecting heavy winds.
Breaking camp was an absolute breeze, I had the tent down and packed away in about 12 minutes, and that was with a hangover! The only problem I have is getting this tent back in the bag that it came in. I gave up after two attempts and now keep the tent in a much bigger bag.
This tent is very roomy for a small dome tent and easily fits a queen size airbed. They call this a 4 person tent but I would not want to try to fit that many comfortably, I would consider this a perfect tent for two people and very little gear. I don't think I would recommend this tent for extreme camping, but for your average family camp out it does just fine.
I have not had to use it in the rain yet, but I am sure I would be putting a tarp over it to make sure I do not get wet. I figure that if nothing breaks on two more trips, I made the right decision by purchasing this Ozark Trails tent. As of right now I am extremely happy with this tent and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive tent for summertime use.
