Ozark Tents: The Perfect Solution for Part-Time Campers

For people who are not familiar with Ozark tents, a popular misconception is that they are specifically for people who hike extensively. The truth of the matter is that Ozark tents are a better fit for families who are occasional campers. There are many designs and styles available for the camper that likes to be versatile.

Styles of Tents

The following are varieties of Ozark tents that are available on the market today:

Family dome tents – These tents sleep seven, give or take, and can fit two queen size air mattresses comfortably. They are over six feet tall in the center.

Four-person dome tents – These tents comfortably sleep two adults and can accommodate a family of four. They are four feet high in the center.

Screen houses – These tents have mesh walls. They are more for socializing and dining in without the worry of insects than for sleeping overnight, although they can be used for this purpose. The ventilation is great for hot summer nights.

Truck tents – These tents fit over the bed of full-size pickup trucks. They can fit two adults and one child. It keeps campers off the ground, which can be important for those with knee or back injuries. Each tent still has a floor.
Vacation lodges – These large tents have three separate rooms that are divided by curtains. Each is built to sleep eight or more people.

Three-dome connection tent – This tent looks like three dome tents in a sequential line. They can be connected to each other using tunnels so that no one has to go outside in harsh weather to have a family gathering. Nine or 10 can sleep here. Ozark Tents

Sizes

In addition to a variety of styles, there are also a variety of sizes in Ozark tents. Junior tents are available at five feet by six feet and family domes are available at 20 feet by 14 feet. There is also pretty much any size a person could need in between those extreme sizes ranges.

Materials

Like most tents on the market today, Ozark tents are made predominately of nylon or polyester fabric. The poles are made of fiberglass and have hardware that is either aluminum or stainless steel. As you have probably already figured out, Ozark tents are very durable and strong.

Assembly

The assembly for an Ozark tent is fairly simple. All that is required is laying the tent out flat and inserting the poles in the correct places. There are even EZ-up tents that are designed for campers who are challenged in this area. On a side note, these Ozark tents do not include a footprint, which is a sheet to place under the tent in order to prevent water from coming into the tent from underneath. Any type of nylon tarp should do the trick for you.

Purchasing

Ozark tents are sold exclusively at Wal-Mart. Several tent makers manufacture these tents and sell them under the Ozark tents label just for this purpose. Being sold at Wal-Mart, they have a considerably lower price than tents exclusively available at high-end camping stores. They do not match up to these pricey tents in quality, but the occasional camper will most likely be reasonably satisfied.

Problems with Ozark Tents

The most common complaint about these tents is that they are not completely waterproof. They can leak along the seams during a heavy rainstorm. Thus, they are not the best choice for people who camp in extreme weather, such as heavy downpours or blizzards.

There are a couple things you can do to make a tent of this brand better insulated from the elements. You can apply waterproofing spray to the outside of the Ozark tent before using it, place a rain fly over top of it once it’s set up and check that the zippers are closed tightly, including the ones on the windows and the porch, if applicable.
